IRIS & IOP

Activate the IOP in IRIS: here is how

OVAM's interoperability platform connects all approved systems for digital identification forms. Whoever creates forms indicates in IRIS where they want to receive them — done in minutes.

What is the IOP?

The IOP (interoperability platform) is the platform OVAM is rolling out in the course of 2026 to connect the approved systems for digital identification forms. Via the IOP you can perform every action on an identification form in the system where you are a customer — even if that form was created in another system. Transporters register the start of transport there, for example, and processors sign for receipt.

What is IRIS?

IRIS is OVAM's routing information system in which you record through which approved system you want to receive identification forms. Interoperability itself only starts when the IOP launches, but OVAM is already giving companies time to record their choice in IRIS — so the exchange can start immediately at launch.

For whom is this mandatory?

Collectors, traders and brokers (IHMs) who create identification forms, and waste producers who make their own arrangements, designate at least one approved system in IRIS. For transporters and processors, obligations depend on their role and on the IOP activation of the other parties.

Step by step

Done in 3 steps

1

Log in at iris.ovam.be

Sign in with your OVAM account. If you work for multiple establishments, check that you are signed in for the right company.

2

Designate your preferred system

Choose the approved system in which you want to receive identification forms — FormDesk, for example. This choice determines where forms created in other systems will automatically arrive.

3

Ready for the IOP launch

As soon as OVAM launches the IOP, forms are exchanged automatically between the approved systems. Nothing more is needed after that.
